November 5, 1982 Missoula Police Officer Stephen A. LePiane was killed when his patrol car was struck broadside by a drunk driver.

Officer LePiane was responding to back up another officer.  The collision occurred at West Broadway and Mullan Road.  Stephen LePiane had been a Missoula Police Officer since November 1979.  He was survived by his wife Sally; two sons, Stephen A. and Christopher Todd; his father, Giulio LePiane; a brother, Clifford, also a Missoula police officer; and two sisters, Fay White and Brenda Kruse.
